Start with folding from corner to corner,

contort your body if you have to

and hook your fingertips on the finish line

but what if I cannot cross that vast expanse

to line myself up, flush against the edge,

what if I am already torn and furrowed at the seams?

Unfold the corners, then fold them towards the middle,

and like puzzle pieces, you make ends meet,

yet, do dollar bills truly lend themselves well

to folding and unfolding

by fingers I cannot even steady?

Now, press down the edges, make them crisp,

for only sides that run straight can carry the weight

of heavy hopes and heftier dreams.

But why should I smooth out the curves and bumps

that make these paper dreams not just ours,

but mine, too, to hold, and to remould?
